As part of the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we are excited to present a dialogue that promotes collaboration and the exchange of ideas on Inclusive Disaster Risk Management in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2023, the focus is on the relationship between inequality and vulnerability to disasters. The Inclusive Disaster Risk and Disability Management Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (RED-GIRDD-LAC) is leading this effort. Its objective is to disseminate knowledge and good practices related to Inclusive Disaster Risk Management, with a special focus on people with disabilities and older adults. As a Network we seek to highlight the actions implemented in the region by States and Non-Governmental Organizations to reduce the risk of disasters in vulnerable groups.
The call of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction is clear: we must address the underlying causes of disasters, such as poverty and inequality. This can only be achieved through the collaboration of the entire society, inclusion and attention to the most vulnerable groups.
Building inclusive, safe and resilient cities depends on policies, plans and projects that promote inclusion and equality. The efforts of States and International Organizations in our region must focus on improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and older adults, increasing awareness and strengthening capacities in the field of climate change and inclusive disaster risk management. .
Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the change and work towards a safer and more equitable future.
Let's make a change together!🤝
